Odd-even: Delhi government tells agencies to allow date-wise parking
According to a senior official, if parking agencies are found flouting government's directives, strict action will be taken against them.

New Delhi: In order to ensure strict implementation of the odd-even plan, Delhi government on Wednesday issued an order to various agencies, including the DMRC and the civic bodies, asking them to allow in their parking lots only odd-numbered cars on odd dates and vice versa.

According to a senior official, if parking agencies are found flouting government's directives, strict action will be taken against them.

The decision was taken in a meeting of all departments' officials chaired by Transport Minister Gopal Rai.

"The odd-numbered cars will be allowed to park only on odd dates and similarly, the even numbered vehicles will be allowed to park on even dates only in parking lots during the 15 days of road-rationing experiment," the official said.

At present, there are nearly 250 authorised parking facilities under all three municipal corporations across the national capital, besides those under the New Delhi Municipal

Council.

"DMRC has also been asked to apprise their parking agencies about the government's directives. Several teams of transport department will visit parking lots and will check the violation of odd-even rules," the officer said.

Earlier in the day, Rai held a meeting with officers of several departments on the preparation of the scheme.

"We have completed our preparations for odd-even plan," Rai said. DTC has added around 3,000 buses as part of efforts to augment public transport.

"DTC has been asked to make special effort to ensure that maintenance of buses is done either during the night time or on Sundays and should minimise the break down. The buses should stop at designated bus stops," Rai had on Tuesday said.

The minister had said that nodal officers would be deployed from various agencies concerned to oversee implementation of the scheme.

The city government has already tied up with Twitter for real-time information on availability of public transport for commuters.
