New Delhi: The Goa Democratic Alliance on Monday night decided to approach the Supreme Court, challenging the manner in which the vote of confidence was conducted in the Goa Assembly on Monday.
According to an agency report from Panaji, the GDA MLAs will leave for Delhi on Tuesday and they are also likely to meet the President over the issue.
Leader of the Opposition and former Goa CM Manohar Parrikar alleged that everything was 'manipulated' in the Legislative Assembly on Monday to save the 'minority' government. He reiterated his demand for 'outright dismissal' of the Digambar Kamat-led Government in the state.
Parrikar met the Goa Governor for a second time on Monday night to register his protest. Later, he along with BJP national General-Secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy told journalists that he would "tap all doors, including that of the Supreme Court and the President of India, for getting justice" to the Goa Democratic Alliance.
Presenting a copy of Monday's proceedings of the House to the Governor, Parrikar told him that the Speaker failed to abide by the former's directive.
The Governor told him that he would look into the proceedings besides, the report of the Speaker on the outcome of the vote before taking further decision on the Opposition charges.
Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and other Congress legislators also called on the Governor on Monday evening to appraise the latter of the developments in the House and its outcome.
Kamat had reportedly told the Governor that he had acted as per the directives of the latter by seeking a vote of confidence through the trial of strength on the floor of the House before transacting other business as per schedule.
