New Delhi: After Presidential nominee PA Sangma's camp demanded rejection of Pranab Mukherjee's nomination on the ground that he held an Office of Profit, both sides will be arguing their cases in Parliament before the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha who is also the returning officer for the polls.
Sangma will be represented by BJP's Satpal Jain, while Home Minister P Chidambaram and Parliamentary Affairs Minister PK Bansal will defend Pranab.
Sangma's team has cited articles 58 and 59 of the constitution which says a person holding an office of profit cannot contest.
The office in question is that of Chairman of the Indian Statistical institute.
Pranab's team has hit back, saying the complaint is untenable as Pranab had resigned from the honorary post a week before he filed his nomination papers.
