New Delhi: A high-powered meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday took stock of the coming Ayodhya verdict, which is expected to be delivered by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad Hhigh Court on September 17.
The verdict will decide whether there was a mosque or a temple at the disputed Ram Janambhoomi site in Ayodhya.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister AK Antony, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon.
UP Chief Minister Mayawati has asked for at least 400 companies to deal with any exigencies as a result of the decision. Intelligence reports suggest that there could be a backlash against the verdict which could polarise Bihar Assembly elections expected in October. The Home Ministry has said most of its paramilitary has been committed to the Commonwealth Games.
A special court has been recording evidence of the CBI witnesses in the case.
The case was handed over to the CBI on December 13, 1992 and the agency had filed a consolidated chargesheet against the accused on August 27, 1993.
