Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday underwent angioplasty at Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Hospital after suffering from post Covid-19 syndrome. According to a health bulletin issued by the government hospital, there was 90 per cent blockage in one of his coronary arteries and one stent was placed successfully. He is absolutely fine, said Dr Sudhir Bhandari, his treating physician and principal of the SMS medical college.
However, we monitored everything very closely and advised him to get a CT angiography done. He agreed and the procedure was done. Since there was 90 per cent blockage, one stent was placed, Dr Bhandari said. He said Gehlot expressed confidence and faith in the team and infrastructure of the SMS Hospital. He is cheerful, Dr Bhandari said, adding that Gehlot has been advised complete rest for two-three days.
The hospital authorities said Gehlot was registered as a common citizen in the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) and got the angioplasty done.
The 70-year-old Congress leader had tested positive for coronavirus in April this year, and since then was facing post Covid issues. Earlier in the day, Gehlot had tweeted that he had been experiencing health issues and went for a check-up after a day ago after “severe pain in the chest”.
“Post Covid I was having health issues & Since yesterday I was having severe pain in my chest. Just got my CT NGO done in SMS hospital. Angioplasty will be done. I am happy that I’m getting it done at SMS Hospital. I am fine & will be back soon. Your blessings & well wishes r with me (sic),” he tweeted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Gehlot a swift recovery and good health.
Responding to Gehlot’s tweet, Modi said, “Praying for your good health and swift recovery, @ashokgehlot51 Ji.”
Several other political leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot, Amarinder Singh, Satish Poonia, and Vasundhara Raje also wished Gehlot a speedy recovery.
