Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat says the "nation's identity is based on Ram".

New Delhi: Ahead of the verdict in the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri masjid title suit, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said that the row can be resolved if Muslims allow a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

"A nation's identity is based on Ram. There is a lot of suspicion in society. Issues can be solved by building Ram temple. If a Muslim supports building temple, no one will accuse him of being a traitor," said Bhagwat.

"It's the court's verdict. My opinion is not in question. We want peace," he said.

The verdict in the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute will be announced at 3:30 pm on September 24 by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. The Lucknow bench will deliver the judgement that will decide who owns the 2.77 acres of disputed land on which Babri Masjid stood.

On Monday two applications were filed before the three-judge bench of the Lucknow High Court seeking postponement of the Ayodhya verdict.

One application sought the case to be settled through arbitration. The other, seeking a postponement, was filed by a group of six prominent persons of Lucknow comprising a multi-faith group.

It sought a postponement of the verdict in public interest given concerns over a violent backlash saying that any arsenal and violence after the court verdict could bring bad name to the country.

The petitioners also said that retirement of one of the judges, Justice DB Sharma who would retire by September end, cannot be an excuse for delivering the judgement.

Uttar Pradesh has already sought 35,000 paramilitary personnel for security duty from the Centre as the state gets ready to deal with any fallout of the much-awaited verdict in the volatile legal dispute.
