ERODE: If the Congress high command wants to save the party in Tamil Nadu, it should remove TNCC president K V Thangkabalu from the post immediately, pleaded Congress legal and human rights wing state vice-president O M R Palanivelu.
Talking to Express on Wednesday, Palanivelu said that 19 functionaries, including his wing’s state president S Muthusamy, were removed by Thangkabalu from the party, and no reason was given for his expulsion.
“This indicates that Thangkabalu was acting according to his whims and fancies. It does not augur well for a president to remove a functionary just because he does not like him,” he said.
As per party norms, Youth Congress functionaries come under Rahul Gandhi and others come under the AICC. So, the AICC alone is the authority to remove anybody from the party. There is no need for them to appear before the disciplinary committee led by Kumari Anandan, he said. “Already, the party is suffering due factional feud. Now, its action creates yet another rival group,” he added.
Expressing a similar view, INTUC council district president K R Thangaraj said the Congress high command should immediately appoint a new president for the TNCC replacing KV Thangkabalu if it is really interested on party’s growth in Tamil Nadu.
