Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad continued to be a political hotbed on Thursday over the suicide of Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula.
A day after several politicians, including Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi visited the campus, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday landed at the university to meet the protesting students.
Kejriwal slammed the Centre accusing them of making Rohith's death a caste issue. He demanded that the Centre should expedite the delivery of justice.
He said, "When bright students like Rohith have to commit suicide, it is a shame on the society."
Kejriwal also targeted the HRD Minister saying, "Smriti Irani made this a Dalit vs non-Dalit issue yesterday. This is a question of justice and irrespective of whether a person is Dalit vs non-Dalit, Smriti Irani should get him justice."
Meanwhile, the Congress slammed Irani of misrepresenting facts calling for the immediate ouster of the vice-chancellor. On the ground, the university remains tense. As many as 13 SC/ST professors supporting the agitation have resigned from all administrative posts.
