A car in which Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was travelling in West Bengal’s Malda district as part of ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ was pelted with stones on Wednesday, claimed state party chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
According to the party leader, the window pane of the car was smashed by unidentified persons.
Chowdhury said that he “just heard a noise” and saw the window pane of Rahul Gandhi’s car falling off.
Television visuals showed Gandhi alighting from the vehicle after reaching a designated halt and inspecting the damaged windowpane.
“How do we know who has done it? Police will look into the matter,” Chouwdhury added. His statement came minutes after reports claimed that the rear window pane of Gandhi’s vehicle was smashed.

While Congress is blaming Trinamool Congress behind the incident, sources are saying that the incident took place with a massive crowd in the area and some locals were behind it.
The attack took place in Malda’s Harischandrapur area as the yatra re-entered West Bengal from Bihar. Trinamool Congress leaders, however, took to social media to claim the incident did not take place in Malda.
Gandhi on Wednesday resumed his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ with a roadshow in Bihar’s Katihar district. After his night halt at Katihar, Gandhi started his Yatra in the morning and is expected to enter West Bengal through Malda.
Locals queued up on both sides of the road and watched the procession. The Congress’ Yatra was underway at a time when the party was left high and dry with former ally Nitish Kumar, the Bihar chief minister, making a return to the BJP-led NDA.
