Hyderabad: Former TDP MP Bhuma Nagi Reddy and his wife B Shobha, a former TDP legislator, on Wednesday joined Telugu superstar Chirajeevi's yet-to-be-named party.

The couple, who has significant political clout in Kurnool district of the faction-ridden Rayalaseema region, arrived at Chiranjeevi's new party office at Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad along with a large number of followers and joined the actor's camp.

Welcoming them into the party fold, Chiranjeevi said the former TDP leaders had decided to join hands with him and extend support in his endeavour to bring about change in political culture.

Aware of the criticism that he was encouraging leaders from other parties with questionable antecedents and violent background, the popular hero said, “We are keen to break from the past and bring about positive change in Rayalaseema political culture.”

Nagi Reddy, who was elected thrice to the Lok Sabha from Nandyal constituency and twice as legislator from Allagadda constituency in Kurnool district, had resigned from TDP last month.

His wife Shobha, former MLA and TDP General Secretary, had also quit the party.

Meanwhile, Mahajan Party, fighting for social justice and empowerment of the backward classes, on Wednesday announced its merger with Chiranjeevi's party.

Its president Sambasiva Rao and General Secretary Gowtham called on the actor and conveyed their party's decision to him.

"As per the majority decision of our state committee. We are merging with Chiranjeevi's party as he has declared that social justice will be his main agenda," Sambasiva Rao said.
