New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party MP from North-West Delhi, Dr.Udit Raj ignited a fresh controversy on Sunday night after he posted on his Twitter page that Jamaica's Usain Bolt won nine Olympic medals because the star athlete's trainer advised him to eat beef.
However, once the tweet sparked a controversy, Udit Raj tried to clarify that. He told CNN-News18 "I tweeted on Bolt and his beef diet because there are allegations that athletes don't have enough facilities in India. It's not the facilities which matter. What matters is dedication. Usain Bolt was poor but had dedication. When his trainer told him that he must eat beef as it's a source of protein then he did it and managed to win so many gold medals."
This was not the first time that the BJP MP had taken followers of his party by surprise. Here is a list of previous instances when Dr.Udit found himself in a controversy.
- July 2016: Dr. Udit Raj claimed that the Hindu religion is in “danger” not because of conversion but because of its “so-called protectors”.
- February 2016: Attended the Mahishasura festival at JNU that Union minister Smriti Irani later held up as an instance of questionable activities by students on the campus.
- September 2015: Udit Raj’s personal secretary, Parminder and his supporters allegedly attacked Northwest Delhi District Magistrate Sanjay Goel.
- April 2015: The MP from North-West Delhi questioned his party’s stand on the ‘ghar wapsi’ reconversion campaign of Hindutva organisations, and told the party national executive that the campaign had sullied India’s image on the world stage.
