New Delhi: Garhwali music is topping the charts and it’s all thanks to the Uttarakhand Assembly elections.

From traditional musical instruments like Dhols and Ransinghas to musical nites of top Garhwali singers, political parties are using Garhwali music to boost their electoral fortunes.

A VCD Nauchhami Naraina lampooning Chief Minister N D Tiwari is also being circulated by the opposition parties.

Garhwali folk singer Narendra Singh Negi is making the most of the election season with nearly four lakh CDs already sold.

“You travel anywhere in Garhwal, you will find this music being played at several areas during the elections,” a social activist, Raja Bist says.

Songs on other sundry scandals are also catching the fancy of the people.

Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD), a key regional party, has roped in Negi to woo the electorate. UKD has also fielded another top Garhwali singer Pritam Bhartwan from Dhanaulti constituency.
