Kolkata: Sticking to her stand against forcible acquisition of land, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that her party would not compromise on the issue of land bill.
"We will not compromise on the issue of land bill, forcible acquisition of land and granting of SEZ status. It was our electoral commitment. We cannot go back on it," Banerjee told a programme in a vernacular news channel.
The chief minister, while talking about granting of SEZ status to Infosys, said her government would provide all kinds of facilities but not SEZ status.
Banerjee's comment followed Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's recent statement that if the land reform bill was not passed in the Rajya Sabha, a joint session of Parliament would be convened as the bill's passage was key to success of the next phase of reforms to allow the country to meet the growth target.
