West Bengal: Congress delegation visits violence-torn Birbhum, stopped by police
As Section 144 has been clamped in the region, the Congress leaders are likely to be stopped

Kolkata: In an attempt to make its presence felt in the violence-hit Birbhum region, the Congress unit in West Bengal visited the place. The delegation of Congress leaders-led by state party chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were stopped by police as Section 144 has been clamped in the area.

Congress workers were holding a sit-in demonstration at the place where they were stopped. Chowdhury said that the party will continue with its protest until they get satisfactory reply from the administration on the situation in the violence-hit district.

"This kind of situation can't be continued for long, so we want peaceful and conclusive resolution to this situation. We want to know from the competent officer whats going on inside the place and how long it will take to restore normalcy. Till then we will keep sitting here," said Chowdhury.

The villages of Chowmondalpur and Makhra have witnessed large scale political violence between TMC and BJP workers over the last few days.

Earlier this week, a three-member BJP fact-finding team, led by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi were arrested when they went to Birbhum.

Heavy police deployment is in place in Birbhum.
