New Delhi: On 20th October 2016, Poonam Jain, wife of Delhi minister Satyendra Jain, recorded her statement before additional commissioner of the Income tax.
She told the tax officers that for the last couple of years, she has been a housewife and her income is below taxable limit. Therefore, she has not been filing income tax return for last two or three years. However, she confirmed that she was filing her income tax return earlier.
On a question by the IT officers where they asked her to provide details of shares presently held by her in different companies, she said, “I don't remember the exact details of shares held by me in different companies. I was never into financial matters of my family. These matters were handled by my husband Satyendra Jain.”
It is this last line which has got the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) interested in her. As per the documents with Income Tax, which has now been handed over to the CBI show at least 2 occasions when substantial amounts were transferred from her account to Satyendra's. On 28 June 2013, Satyendra received Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 20 lakh on 16th Jan 2015.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a preliminary enquiry against Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain in a case of money laundering.
This after the AAP Minister and his wife had come under scanner of the I-T Department, for controlling Akinchan Developers, the firm which had illegally laundered Rs 16.39 crore from 56 shell companies from 2010 to 2016.
CBI visited Satyendra's wife to seek clarification on this matter. CBI sources claim that they had informed Poonam about the visit and the time and place was of her choosing.
