Nakkalites fame Rajeshwar Kalisamy is all set to make his directorial debut with a family entertainer. It will feature actor K Manikandan as the main lead. According to reports, the film went on floors recently. The movie will also mark the Tamil debut of Telugu actor Saanve Megghana. In a recent media interaction, Rajeshwar spoke about his upcoming project. Opening up about the film’s storyline, he said, “Adventure-driven stories are mostly used in the action or thriller genres. I want to explore it as a family entertainer with a middle-class youngster at the centre of things.”
Manikandan and family entertainers are a successful combination, especially with the critical and commercial acclaim of his recent movie Good Night, which was released earlier this year. Although Good Night was more of a drama, as per Rajeshwar, his upcoming project will be a comedy-adventure film. It will cater to the sensibilities and expectations of the Nakkalite audience.
Apart from Manikandan and Saanve, the yet-to-be-titled film will also feature Guru Somasundaram in a key role. Talking about his casting choices, Rajeshwar Kalisamy said, “Manikandan had mostly played serious roles before Good Night. But way before Good Night, his sense of humour was amply established through his YouTube channel.” He also shared that he was a great fan of K Manikandan’s channel. Since he saw his videos, he has always wanted to work with him on a comedy film. Rajeshwar loved Saanve’s performance in Pitha Kathalu and found her to be the perfect match for his film. It is said that Guru Somasundaram might play a grey shade in the film, but it will not be very dark because it is a comedy drama.
Rajeshwar further gave writing credits to his Nakkalites actor, Prasanna Balachandar. He said that both of them started working on this story back in 2017. From the initial days of their careers, they wanted to enter the industry as a writer-director duo.
The upcoming movie is said to be backed by S Vinoth Kumar, under the banner of Cinemaakaran. The cinematography of the yet-to-be-titled project will be done by Sujith Subramaniam, edited by Kannan, and the music will be composed by Vaisagh.
Reports suggest the main portion of this upcoming film will be shot in Coimbatore.
