Thalapathy Vijay attended Captain Vijaykanth's funeral in Chennai and was attacked on his way out.

Thalapathy Vijay was attacked at Vijaykanth’s funeral in Chennai on Friday. The Tamil actor joined the film fraternity to pay his last respects at the funeral. However, an angry mob of mourners attacked Vijay, with one even hitting him with a slipper. Vijaykanth died on Thursday, December 28. The 71-year-old actor turned politician was on ventilatory support after testing positive for Covid-19. The actor-turned political leader who also founded the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party was admitted in MIOT International.

The funeral took place in Chennai with several Tamil stars attending the funeral. Vijay was one of the stars present at the funeral. In a video going viral on X, previously known as Twitter, a distraughted Vijay was seen making his way through the mob to offer his last respects. He met Vijaykanth’s family and offered his condolences. As he made his way out, the actor was brutally mobbed while the police helped him wade through.

A video also showed an unidentified man threw a slipper at him. Fortunately, Vijay managed to escape the hit.

On Thursday, MIOT International, the hospital where Vijayakanth was admitted, said he was battling pneumonia and passed away on Thursday morning. “Captain Vijayakanth was on ventilatory support following his admission for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, he passed away in the morning on December 28, 2023,” the hospital said in a press release. Vijayakanth was admitted to the hospital for a regular health check-up on Tuesday. At the time, the DMDK party said their leader was “healthy” and would return home after the tests.
