As we get closer to the release of the Apple Vision Pro in early 2023, and possibly even next month in January or early February, as per industry experts, new alleged details about the “spatial computer” are surfacing. The latest is in the form of a new accessory that Apple may have available when the device launches.
As seen in an Apple patent spotted by PatentlyApple, via MacRumors, this could be a first-party accessory from Apple that will come with the Vision Pro headset when it launches. What will it do, you ask? Well, for starters, it looks like a cover based on the patent.
In the patent filing, we can see the cover from multiple angles. It looks like it would fit on the headband of the device, and images suggest it could be made out of woven material, just like the FineWoven cases that Apple makes for iPhones. That said, this initial look suggests that it would only cover the front glass elements of the headset, and it won’t cover the whole device.
Another notable detail we can see in the images is the presence of a pull-tab arrangement. It is likely there so that users can easily take off the cover from the headset.
With that said, it will be really interesting to see what kinds of first and third-party accessories we see for the Vision Pro once it launches next year. We already know that Apple is potentially working on lens inserts in collaboration with Zeiss. These will allow users with prescription glasses to easily use the mixed reality headset without having to worry about not being able to see, or somehow fitting the headset over their glasses or contact lenses.
Apple devices are typically well supported, and considering that this is going to be Apple’s first new product line in almost a decade, we may see some fun accessories down the line.
