Apple is readying itself to unveil its own version of AI tools and AI-enabled hardware as it faces up to OpenAI and Google in the battle. The company is hosting the WWDC 2024 keynote on June 10 where Tim Cook and Co. will walk us through the first-gen AI features that iPhone and other Apple devices will be offered later this year.
One of the biggest use cases of AI that has come through lately is the ability to summarise content, text and other items. The latest Bloomberg report claims Siri will be the biggest winner from the AI upgrades, giving it a conversational tone and offering new abilities as well. Apple is also talking to OpenAI for a deal that could bring ChatGPT to iPhone users and that might be confirmed at the keynote by Cook and Co. next month.
Having said that, here’s a look at the iOS apps that might come in a new avatar thanks to the AI integration in iOS 18.
– Auto summarising notifications
– Quick news summaries
– Transcribe voice memos
– AI-based photo editing
– AI-based app suggestions
– Auto-feed Calendar
Apple is reportedly going to push its AI functions on-device which is a privacy boon and for that it has already set up the data centres powered by the Apple Silicon chips. Most of you would be expecting the company to blow the trumpet to OpenAI and Google but Apple’s focus and product details are unlikely to be impressive, as the company has been going about its business slowly and making sure the safety checks are in place before coming out with its AI resources to the public.
The major AI hardware upgrades are already on their way, as we saw the M4-powered iPad Pro 2024 models recently, and soon, the iPhone 16 Pros and the Macs will be upgraded to support these upcoming AI features as well.
