Samsung Says Bixby Is Alive And Will Get A GenAI Makeover To Rival ChatGPT
Samsung is not giving up on Bixby and its own AI upgrade of the assistant will be hoping to compete with ChatGPT, Gemini and even Siri.

Samsung showed all its new AI bells and whistles that will be coming to the Galaxy Z Fold series and other devices later. But many of us expected the company to bring a new avatar of Bixby assistant with GenAI tech baked into it.

While that didn’t happen at the Galaxy Unpacked event this week, Samsung is already planning for next year when we could finally see Bixby competing with ChatGPT, Gemini AI and even Siri for that matter.

Bixby AI – The Last Chance Saloon?

Samsung introduced Bixby as the Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant rival many years back. The company even talked about making Bixby the default assistant for its devices then but it never got the lift-off that Samsung expected. Fast-forward to 2024, Samsung could finally have the right tools and Google’s assistance to make Bixby smarter, powerful and effective as an AI chatbot with voice support.

During the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 models, Samsung’s senior executive talked about bringing the upgraded Bixby later this year. He even mentioned to CNBC that the new version will be powered by Samsung’s own Large Language Model (LLM) which is an interesting nugget to discuss. Bixby has been around for a long time but if it doesn’t benefit from the AI upgrade, chances are Samsung will eventually move to other platforms or just resort to using Gemini for its hardware.

Samsung has relied on Google’s Gemini AI to power its own features so far, and building its own AI model will help the company advance its data processing and bring further privacy to the data generated by the users. The company will not be having any major launches till early 2025, with the Galaxy S25 series likely to be the platform where the Bixby AI avatar is revealed and released on a device.

Before that, Google and then Apple will bring their respective AI models to the upcoming Pixel 9 series and iPhone 16 series, respectively.
