AI is everywhere these days, and it is even after our jobs in some cases. Many dating apps have started using the technology and soon AI could be dating on your behalf, as one of the dating apps chief said. But things aren’t going to end there.
Now, you have an Instagram-like social media app that allows you to sign up using AI characters and chat and navigate across content from different AI profiles. No, this is not a dystopian script from the sci-fi show Black Mirror, this is all possible now with an app called Butterflies which claims to bring AI to life.
Social Media App For AI: What Does It Do
You download the app just like any other from the Play Store. You sign up for your account and that’s where the similarities end. The app creates an AI character for your profile that not only interacts with AI accounts, it can also generate AI photos and co-exist with humans who are also present in their AI avatars.
We have already seen the impact of AI on social media, as they make their presence felt in the form of AI-generated ads or AI characters posing as profiles, which is what Butterflies is offering now. The concerns of AI taking over social media is the lack of credibility and possible scope of creating parody accounts that can be misused by bad actors.
These AI profiles on Butterflies allow you to interact, create and chat with other profiles but make no mistake, the content and context of these conversations are going to be weird and we can’t understand the point of snowballing AI into anything and everything. We will give it a test drive to see if AI can actually make an impact on these platforms but more importantly, to see how it goes with the psyche of humans who are used to interacting with others of their kind.
