WhatsApp is reintroducing the ability for its desktop applications to send view-once photos and videos, a popular feature that was removed a year ago.
As per WABetaInfo, Meta had removed the ability to send view once photos and videos from WhatsApp Web and Desktop for privacy reasons. However, it now appears that the feature is indeed making its comeback after one year. Moreover, this feature is not just limited to WhatsApp desktop apps for Windows; it is also available for macOS and even on linked devices using WhatsApp beta for iPad.
The publication also notes that the feature was recently rolled out for WhatsApp Web. This feature provides a better privacy experience for WhatsApp users, especially if they do not want a particular media file saved on someone else’s device. Moreover, this is also useful for sharing sensitive media files that should be viewed only once, and may end up in the wrong hands if accessed on a users’ phone.
Who is it available for?
The view once for desktop feature is rolling out to some users who install the latest available app update for Windows, as well as for macOS and WhatsApp Web. It is expected that this is a gradual rollout, so more users will be able to access it over the coming weeks. So, if you don’t have the update available for you, try updating the app, and if it still doesn’t work, wait for a while before it becomes available for you as well.
In related news, WhatsApp is also developing a feature that will display profile information within chats. This profile information will be visible even when the contact is offline, alternating with the last seen if it is available.
