WhatsApp announced in a blog post on Thursday that it will be bolstering its relationship with Facebook, after the messaging app was bought by the social media giant in 2014.
While WhatsApp assured users that the partnership would not infringe on personal privacy, the company said it would begin sharing a limited amount of user data with Facebook, including individual phone numbers.
The company says the new information sharing system will be used to suggest friends more easily and offer more relevant ads. WhatsApp says it will not post or share phone numbers with other users, nor give it to advertisers.
