Windows 10 Mobile preview to be now available on most Windows Phone devices
Preview of the upcoming Windows 10 Mobile OS will now support more Windows Phone devices after 'partition stitching' that helped unlock them.

New Delhi: As the official release of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10 OS grows closer, the company has decided to extend its preview or test build to many more phones.

The company's Operating Systems Group team has added code to the next test build of Windows 10 Mobile that will be functional on more Windows Phones. The first preview of the OS was released in February this year, but supported only select Lumia devices.

The latest code addition will allow users to run the preview on their devices. The initial list of supported devices, which is not 100 per cent locked, includes Lumia 1020, Lumia 1320, Lumia 1520, Lumia 520, Lumia 525, Lumia 526, Lumia 530, Lumia 530 Dual SIM, Lumia 535, Lumia 620, Lumia 625, Lumia 630, Lumia 630 Dual SIM, Lumia 635, Lumia 636, Lumia 638, Lumia 720, Lumia 730, Lumia 730 Dual SIM, Lumia 735, Lumia 810, Lumia 820, Lumia 822, Lumia 830, Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928, Lumia ICON, Microsoft Lumia 430, Microsoft Lumia 435, Microsoft Lumia 435 Dual SIM, Microsoft Lumia 435 Dual SIM DTV, Microsoft Lumia 532, Microsoft Lumia 532 Dual SIM, Microsoft Lumia 640 Dual SIM, Microsoft Lumia 535 Dual SIM, a ZDnet report stated.

Head of Microsoft's Windows Insider program Gabe Aul stated in his blog that earlier the test build was limited because they had to select from the set of phones that had sufficient system partition sizes configured by the manufacturer.

Aul said that Microsoft has got the partition stitching done which has led them to unlock a much larger set of phones that could use Windows 10 technical preview. The new test build will also have support for phones that didn't have China Mobile Operator support in the last build.

Although Aul refrained from stating when the new build will become available, he hinted that it will still take at least one more week of engineering before being pushed out.

Windows 10 OS will be launched this summer and its PC version will include Project Spartan browser instead of the older Internet Explorer. The latest OS is also expected to support biometric authentication.
