World Tourism Day 2023: Switch out your flight ticket with a parking slip and drive around in your own city thereby, reducing your carbon footprint

As the prices for flights touch the sky and the highways are blocked by cars, it’s time for you to go winding down the old country roads. The year 2023 is a blessing for everyone who loves to travel- you get one long weekend every month. But who says you have to cross state borders to have new experiences?

Every year on 27th September, the world celebrates International Tourism Day to promote sustainable and responsible travel. This year, the theme is ‘Tourism and Green Investment’ which translates into investing in the people and planet. And what better way to honor it than investing in local communities, small businesses and indulging in your city’s delicacies? Switch out your flight ticket with a parking slip and drive around in your own city thereby, reducing your carbon footprint- remember, every bit counts.

Bangalore: The Garden City of India

If you live in Namma Bengaluru, then you do not have to worry about new experiences at all. Start your day with a nice stroll in Cubbon Park. On Saturday mornings, carry a book or your paintbrush and join the Cubbon Reads community. On Sundays, there is a dog park and people from around the city bring their furry friends here. If you find yourself feeling hungry en route, add a quick pit stop at Taaza Thindi to grab a bite before continuing your journey to the National Gallery of Modern Art.

Amidst the plethora of attractions Bangalore offers, its weather and the evening sky continue to stand unrivaled. To savour this experience to the fullest, hop onto a paddle boat at Ulsoor Lake and watch as the sun paints the sky pink. Make sure to visit the Bangalore Palace, Nandi Hills and Vidhana Soudha before calling it a day. And finally, make sure to stop for dessert at Corner House to experience the sweetness of Bangalore.

Mumbai: The City of Dreams

The magic of Mumbai is magnetic- somehow the city of dreams draws you in.  The rustic charm of Rustom’s ice-cream sandwiches, Marine Drive to street shopping at Colaba causeway, the city thrums with energy and life.  Did you know Mumbai is home to three UNESCO World Heritage sites?

The Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles, located in the Fort area of downtown Mumbai, is a collection of 94 beautiful buildings that date back to the 19th and early 20th centuries. The second is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Victoria Terminus) famous for its Victorian architecture and last, the Elephanta Caves, located a short boat ride from the iconic Gateway of India. Add some Parsi cafes to your list, make sure to try out the most loved ‘vada pav’ and ‘misal’ and take a ride through the Sea link. Book an enchanting Mumbai Film City tour and experience the magic of bollywood.

If you’re in the city during September-mid, then make sure you witness the grandeur of Lal Bagh ke Raja. Mumbai’s Ganesh Pandal is famous around the world for its vibrant music and loud celebrations, and truly, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
