Sometimes the most unexpected of people, even your loved ones may end up betraying you. That betrayal could stem from anything, including a minor rift or any other personal reason. A man from the UK offered 5,000 pounds (Rs 5.2 lakh) to anyone who would kill his father, however, he ended up doing it himself.
37-year-old Austin Duckworth killed his father, 72-year-old Stephen after beating him mercilessly. As per the Daily Star, Austin barged into his father’s home and punched him repeatedly in the head. He has been jailed for 17 years.
When his life sentence was being given by Judge Medland KC, Austin did not show up. Moreover, he declined to even enter the witness box to answer questions at the Preston Crown Court. Instead, he handed them a written statement for his defence, denying that he went to his father’s place on August 12, 2023.
More reports state that he was banned from entering his father’s property as he showed extremely violent and abusive behaviour specifically towards his father. The incident occurred on August 26, 2023, when Austin went to his father’s place to demand his walking boots and when his request was denied, he broke the door and “pummelled” his father in the hallway.
Later, Stephen was able to call an ambulance and was sent to a hospital, where he was found to have a “devastating bleed to the brain”. Succumbing to his injuries, he passed away on October 12. The cause of death was found to be “blunt force trauma,” as reported by Daily Star.
Judge Medland KC concluded that Austin Duckworth had all the intentions to seriously injure his father. His bizarre messages, which included the reward offer to kill his father, were an indication of poor mental health. The judge stated further that in the past 3 years, Austin’s behaviour was found to be “unacceptable, aggressive, threatening and deeply, deeply troubling,” which led to his father evicting him from their home.
