Imagine purchasing a chocolate, especially on the occasion of Chocolate Day, only to discover a live worm wriggling within it! Surely, your ‘skin would crawl’ at the sight, wouldn’t it? This nightmarish scenario unfolded for a man who bought a Cadbury from a store in Telangana on February 9, 2024 and stumbled upon a worm inside. Taking to ‘X’, Robin Zaccheus lodged a complaint, tagging Dairy Milk India, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the concerned retail store among the others.
The shared post featured a video displaying a tiny worm crawling on the back of Cadbury Dairy Milk ‘Roast Almond,’ purchased by Robin for Rs. 45 at Ratnadeep Retail, located at Ameerpet metro station in Hyderabad. The video also showcased the packaging, although the expiry date remained obscured. Accompanying the footage was the attached bill, serving as proof of purchase along with other pertinent details.

“Found a worm crawling in Cadbury chocolate purchased at Ratnadeep Metro Ameerpet today.. Is there a quality check for these near to expiry products? Who is responsible for public health hazards?” he lamented.

The post quickly garnered attention, sparking various comments. “I am guessing all units manufactured of the same batch will have similar outcomes,” expressed one user. Another remarked, “Fogging n keeping shelves clean daily is an important task they compromise with. Saw worms (and) maggots in milk sachet shelves in more stores. Tetra packs are not to be purchased like all eatables nearing expiry. Or 30days after manufacturing.” Meanwhile, a third opined, “Pure Cadbury is less susceptible than fruit n nuts or roasted ones.”
Meanwhile, GHMC’s official handle responded to the incident, stating, “The Concerned Food Safety team @AFCGHMC have been alerted on this issue and the same will be resolved at the earliest.”

Earlier, a female passenger underwent a similarly harrowing food experience. A dietician by profession, Khushboo Gupta travelled on an Indigo flight (Delhi-Mumbai flight no. 6E 6107) on December 29, 2023, where she was served a veg sandwich during the journey. However, it turned out to be a revolting experience for her when she discovered a live worm inside her snack. The Delhi-based dietician took to her Instagram handle, sharing the video of the worm in her food, and further criticised the airline for serving substandard quality food.
