Cognizant Offers 2.5 LPA To Freshers, Internet Says 'No Wonder GenAlpha Wants To Make Reels'
The mass recruitment drive for fresh graduates offered IT enthusiasts an annual package of Rs 2.52 lakh and mentioned the application deadline as August 14.

Companies offering jobs are often criticised by applicants for the expected amount of work or, at times, low compensation value. Something similar happened to IT giant Cognizant, which was trolled over a recent job listing for freshers. The mass recruitment drive for fresh graduates offered information technology enthusiasts an annual package of Rs 2.52 lakh and mentioned the application deadline as August 14.

The job posting was shared on the X handle of Indian Tech & Infra on August 13. “Cognizant has announced an exciting off-campus mass hiring drive, welcoming applications from candidates belonging to the 2024 batch.

Application deadline – August 14. Package – INR 2.52 LPA,” it read.

No wonder social media users were furious with the package offered as compensation to aspiring IT professionals. “2.52 LPA is very generous. What will the graduates do with so much money,” a comment read.

Taking a dig at the company, another individual stated, “This package was offered to 2002 batches. No House, No free commutation, No Free Food. All this to be managed in just 18 to 19K rupees after PF deduction in metro Cities.”

Someone else chimed in, “Wow, 2 lakhs per year? My driver makes way more than that, working just 4 days a week. Lol.”

Coming down heavily on the pay structure, a user wrote, “People are normalising Less pay by saying, it’s better than nothing.”

A commenter also joked saying, “2.5 LPA? No wonder GenAlpha wants to make reels and aspire to be a successful YouTuber.”

Another user shared an elaborate breakup of expenses while earning a living in metro cities. He noted, “Salary: 20k/month. Location: Pune, Bangalore, NCR. Basic Expenses: – Rent: 10k – Food: 12k (400 per day) – Transportation: 3k-5k. For basic living it costs: 22k-25k. This is too low for skilled labour!”

The internet users also posted some hilarious memes on the topic.

Meanwhile, the IT giant will lay the foundation stone for its new campus in Hyderabad on August 14. The 10 lakh sqft campus is expected to create an additional 15,000 jobs.
