No Help From Govt Forces Jharkhand Villagers To Construct Road On Their Own To Tackle Monsoon
During the monsoon season, the unpaved roads get filled with mud and water making it extremely difficult for students to travel to school or college.

The monsoon season has already begun in all parts of the country. In some parts, the condition of the roads has become worse. The Telgaon Panchayat area of Gumla, Jharkhand, reportedly faces a similar situation. Despite being close to the district headquarters, the village still lacks proper road facilities. The distance between the district headquarters and the village is around 3 km but there is no proper road in the village. With the onset of rain, the road becomes unfit for use, causing significant problems for the villagers.

The villagers reportedly took the job of repairing the road in their own hands. They worked together to construct a road of 3 km from Phulwar Toli to Chaha Barha Toli. During the monsoon season, the unpaved roads get filled with mud and water, making it extremely difficult for students to travel to school or college. People even find it hard to travel to their workplace through this road. The villagers mentioned that it becomes very challenging to walk or ride a two or three-wheeler on this road during the rains. The risk of accidents increases due to the condition of the road.

A resident of the village Rekha Kujur mentioned that the villagers have repeatedly informed the administration and local representatives about these problems through written applications. But no action was taken. The villagers then decided to repair the road on their own. Men, women, youth and children all took part in this. They collected donations to cover the expenses of tractors, raw materials and other collective expenses. The villagers said that every time they appeal to the local representatives, they only give assurance and exploit them but the work is never done.

Another resident of the village, Namita Lakra said that several people met with accidents due to the condition of the road. She said, “We have now managed to construct a better passable road, but we hope that the government will construct a concrete road here soon which will make commuting much easier for everyone.”
