In a horrific incident, a shopkeeper struck a puppy with an iron rod in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad link road area. The upsetting incident occurred on April 18 and is currently making headlines on social media. According to Punekar News, a complaint has been filed against the accused, Gupta, a Pradhikaran resident, at the Pimpri police station by Hitesh Jaipal Kundnani, a 34-year-old Link Road resident. On Pimpri’s link road, Gupta is the owner of a store named Gupta Traders.
A brown and white puppy that frequently visited the area in front of Gupta’s store was subjected to assault, as per the police report. Reportedly, he battered the animal with an iron rod, driving it out of the shop and into the pavement. Since the vicious attack, the three-month-old puppy has been admitted to an animal hospital in Wakad for treatment owing to severe injuries.

The puppy was rendered unconscious and had fractures as a result of the beatings. Hitesh Jaipal Kundnani recorded the event on his phone and subsequently reported it to the Pimpri police.
Under the pertinent provisions of the 1960 Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the police have filed a case against Gupta. To protect the safety and welfare of the local animals as well as apprehend the offender, the Pimpri police have opened an investigation into the incident. Widespread indignation at the incident has led to calls for stronger laws to stop animal abuse.
As the video went viral, users on social media expressed anger over the incident. One user said, “Shame on the person who hit the poor puppy.” Another commented, “Shameful act”. The third user who was concerned about the puppy wrote, “Can I please know where the pup was admitted?”
A fourth said, “What kind of human we are becoming? Great work bro.” Many asked about the little puppy’s condition while others wanted to know if the accused was arrested or if any action had been taken.
