A video that shows a dog drinking alcohol from a plastic cup is sparking outrage on social media platform X. The video shows a group of men looking amused by the puppy’s alcohol consumption as they make its video. The men appear to be enjoying themselves by a bonfire. This video was reportedly taken in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur. On Friday, Poonam Bagri, who is an animal welfare representative at the Animal Welfare Board of India as per her X bio, shared this video. She tagged law enforcement authorities, the union minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala, and other prominent leaders in her post.
In a scathing X post, she wrote, “Bite ka ek reason yeh bhi samne aa raha hai jaha pe kuch ridiculous log dogs ko alcohol pilaate hai raat ke time…. Inpe action kab hoga? These people are making our and our animals’ lives difficult. (One reason why dogs bite is that some ridiculous people made dogs drink alcohol at night….when will action be taken against them? These people are making our and our animal’s life difficult.)”

She also shared the Facebook profile of a man who is reportedly seen in the video. Bagri pointed to the thousands of Facebook followers of the man and wrote, “In logo ko itne log follow karte hai pr inke karam nahi dekhte kitne gande log hai kitna shota bacha hai jaan ja sakti hai. plz iss bande pe karwahi ki jaye (So many people follow them but look at their misdeeds. This puppy is so young, its life can be endangered. Please take action against this man).”
In response to the post, the Rajasthan Police Helpdesk on X tagged the account of Sawai Madhopur police station. The local police station responded that they had asked the stationed police officers to take appropriate action about the complaint.
As per Pet Poison Helpline, a 24-hour animal poison control service, alcohol consumption is harmful to dogs and can even result in fatalities. The symptoms of alcohol poisoning in dogs manifest as loss of consciousness, vomiting, hypersalivation, tremors, seizures, loss of control, breathing difficulties, and dehydration.
Interestingly back in 2020, Busch Beer, an American brewing company, introduced a bone broth for dogs that was packaged with the likeness of a beer can.

The alcohol-free product was also advertised as a ‘dog beer’. In a press note, the company introduced the product as, “After a long day there’s nothing quite like having a Busch with a friend, and with so many new pet owners across America this year, we wanted to create a brew to give our fans a chance to share a Busch brew with their ‘best friend’.”
