'Stop bringing beauty standards': UP class 10th topper finds support on the internet amidst massive trolling.

When will women stop being judged for their looks? Is intelligence only valuable if it comes in a beautiful package? These questions popped up again after the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad announced the results for classes 10th and 12th on April 20. The spotlight fell on Prachi Nigam, a student from Sitapur, who topped the class 10th results in the state with an impressive score of 98.50 percent, equivalent to 591 out of 600 marks.

But instead of celebrating her achievement, her appearance got dragged into the centre as images of her went viral. People started poking fun at her features, highlighting yet another concerning aspect of our society.

However, when the trolls came marching in, critics weren’t far behind, ready to hit back in the most necessary and powerful way. “The trollers don’t even think twice what they’re trolling and who they’re trolling. It’s pathetic. I wish she didn’t read those comments ever, it may harm her confidence forever. Hormonal imbalance can occur to anyone any time. We must refrain from mocking it,” one ‘X’ user responded to a doctor’s explanation suggesting she might be dealing with PCOS and deserves understanding, not ridicule.

Another voice chimed in, “It’s so easy for people to mock this young girl Prachi Nigam over her facial hair which may be due to hormonal imbalance. Have they ever thought how it can affect the little girl?”

Then came the third voice, “Prachi Nigam is the @Upboardexam24 topper. All those dissing/laughing at her looks probably scrapped through their board exams if at all. Adolescent is a challenging time. You go and conquer the world Prachi while these nameless nothings live their zero good lives.”

So, while internet trolling might seem like just another day online, it’s heartening to see how people are standing up against it on the same platform.
