UK Man Pays Rs 40,000 Rent To Parents For Living With Them

In most of the western countries, it is almost customary for children to move out of their parents’ home once they reach a certain age. An adult living in their parents’ home is something you will hardly find in western countries. In India, while many children move out for the sake of their career, there is no hard and fast rule about the same and it is not taboo to be living with parents. In fact, the child may live with their parents permanently, if they are employed or posted in the same city where they grew up.

A boy paying rent to his parents for staying at his own home is something people in South Asia would not be able to fathom easily. But that is exactly what a young man from the UK did. He shared this on the online platform Mumsnet. According to his statement in the post, he pays Rs 40,000 rent to his parents to live with them in the very house that he grew up in. Since he is the eldest among his four siblings, he is the only one who pays this rent. He works from home and is also doing an online course. He has no problem paying the rent, but he says that his parents imposed certain conditions on him, which he is not ok with.

The boy says that he is giving his parents Rs 10,000 every week. Despite this, he is not being allowed to bathe properly. He is told to take a shower for not more than 15 minutes so that electricity and water bills in the house are reduced. He says that he is not even allowed to bathe daily, so that bills can be reduced. He complained about it on the platform, fuming over it and saying that he was not at fault for the family having so many members.
