The universe is an ever-growing topic which can astonish us with new studies and discoveries now and then. Recently, astronomers and scientists were puzzled over the sudden eruption of the seizure comet P12/Pons-Brooks. Now, a video is going viral which shows how the solar system travels around the galaxy. Earlier, it was believed that the sun was the centre around which the other terrestrial objects and planets revolved. Later, it was discovered that the whole solar system revolves around the galaxy including the sun.

The latest viral video has been shared on the social media platform X by a page named Curiosity which usually focuses on the hidden mysteries and the facts of the universe. In the video, an animation shows the solar system revolving around the centre of the Milky Way galaxy. The movement shown is spiral in nature. The planets are seen revolving around the sun while it moves in a straight line. The video has crossed over one lakh views on Twitter. Take a look:

The National Aeronautics And Space Administration (NASA) scientists have said that not just the sun but the entire solar system revolves around the Milky Way. Its speed is estimated to be more than 8,28,000 kilometres per hour. The solar system takes approximately 230 million years to complete one revolution around the galaxy. They also said that the solar system never stays in one place, as believed by many.

Our galaxy, Milky Way, is expected to be a spiral galaxy. According to NASA, the Milky Way consists of a central bulge, 4 major arms and several shorter arm segments. The sun and the rest of our solar system are located near the Orion arm. The diameter of the galaxy is approximately 100,000 light-years and the Sun is located at a distance of approximately 28,000 light-years from the galactic centre.
