Relationships in the modern world can be pretty dangerous. The easy accessibility of social media platforms has enabled strangers to connect, communicate, and forge a bond, which sometimes turns into a romantic equation. However, along with the perks come the drawbacks of phishing, catfishing, and fabricated information. One woman who faced severe consequences for marrying a “pathological liar” of a man has been raising awareness about the risks of trusting someone online. She hooked viewers with her shocking story through a 50-part and eight-hour series TikTok video, claiming that her ex-partner was a “narcissist” and “the United Nations of red flags.”
Referring to her former husband as “Legion”, she posted the first video on February 13. She revealed that the information about his family members, paperwork, and allegedly made-up personal data. In the series, under the name “Who did I marry?” the woman disclosed that she met her ex-husband in March 2020 before the Covid-19 lockdown, reports NBC News. She said that on their first dates, he claimed to be divorced but wanted to settle down. They soon moved in together at her townhouse during the quarantine period. However, things took a turn for the worse soon after.
Real estate agents would ask her ex to provide proof of funds, but he would not comply. She added that he also made false statements regarding his income, the connection with his ex-wife and kids, and even his job title. The unnamed person would also take up “fake phone calls” from his siblings and colleagues. During a new job search when the woman needed his ex’s social security number, she noticed that the one he gave was different than the one he provided during their marriage license.
When the Atlanta-based content creator looked into the matter, she found out that neither her former partner lived in California, nor did he work as a temporary forklift driver. His family refused to speak with him because of his constant lies. Without wasting time, she divorced her ex in less than a year, reports Time magazine.
Reacted to the video, one TikTok user urged the woman to “expose” the person. Another claimed that were unable to “scroll away” from the videos. A third individual noted that it was “the most organized story” they ever heard.
According to the woman, the reason behind creating the series was to assist those who have had or are experiencing similar situations, reports NBC News. She was currently on the path of healing from the traumatic experience.
