'Put It Down, You’re Gonna Get Hurt': Bodycam Video Shows Cops Breaching Columbia University | Watch

A bodycam video released by the New York City police on Thursday shows heavily geared officers’ breach of the formerly occupied Hamilton Hall at Columbia University, where over 100 were arrested during a sweep this week.

The 7-minute clip starts with police officers approaching the steps of the hall as a group of protesters, their arms linked behind a Palestinian flag, sing, “We shall not be moved.”

One ski mask-clad protester appeared to have a makeshift shield duct-taped to his arm as he attempted to block officers.

In the video, an officer could be heard warning the protester to “put it down”.

“Put it down, you’re gonna get hurt,” the cop said, as he pushed the protester to the floor.

The video further reveals the layers of barricades the police had to hack through, with “jaws of life” cutters, electric saws and blow torches, as per New York Post.

In order to lock themselves inside the building, the protesters pulled up tables, chairs and garbage cans and used bicycle chains.

Hamilton Hall, one of the main buildings at the Columbia University that protesters occupied early Tuesday morning, is notable for another protest — the 1968 takeover by black students who renamed the building “Malcolm X Liberation College” to protest both the Vietnam War and the construction of a Columbia gymnasium in Harlem that the students claimed would effectively be segregated.
