Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Prince and Princess of Wales, are seeking a new assistant private secretary for Wales and the UK, according to an online job posting at Kensington Palace.
The role includes overseeing the planning and execution of their public engagements across Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, while contributing to initiatives that will help enhance the British royal household’s impact throughout the UK.
‘Exciting opportunity’
“This is an exciting opportunity to join the dedicated team at Kensington Palace, supporting TRH the Prince and Princess of Wales,” the job post read which closed on July 19. “The Assistant Private Secretary for Wales & UK will lead the planning and delivery for most of TRH’s public engagements in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, and contribute to the development of the Household’s strategy to maximize impact across the constituent nations of the UK, with a particular focus on Wales.”
Qualifications
Key qualifications include excellent communication and organisational skills, with a crucial requirement for understanding Welsh culture and language. The ideal candidate must be capable of proactive leadership within a small, agile team, possessing a deep comprehension of Welsh communities, governmental affairs, and business dynamics.
Fluency in Welsh is essential, while proficiency in both written and spoken Welsh is highly desirable. Welsh, known for its historical significance as Britain’s oldest language dating back over 4,000 years, is spoken by over a quarter of Wales’ 3.136 million residents. It permeates various aspects of Welsh life, including media, literature, and everyday signage, the New York Post reported.
King Charles III undertook Welsh lessons ahead of his 1969 investiture as Prince of Wales, a title first bestowed upon him at age 9. After his ascent to the British throne in 2022, Prince William assumed the title, with Kate becoming Princess of Wales. Like his father, Prince William is also engaged in learning the language.
