'People's Elbow, Again': The Rock Makes WWE Return as he Takes Down Austin Theory

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made a return to the WWE after a prolonged wait on the 15th September 2023 edition of Smackdown as the 51-year-old enthralled fans with some old-school nostalgia.

The Rock thrilled fans during the opening segment of the blue brand as he came out during an exchange of words between Pat McAfee and Austin Theory.

The crowd went into a frenzy as soon as they heard the famous entrance music cue. The wrestler demonstrated his aura and charisma yet again as he indulged the fans with pictures and autographs before making his way into the ring.

Once in the ring, Austin Theory started to address the Rock, who abruptly cut him off with a typical Rock-esque response before delivering his piece to the awaiting fans.

He pulled off his jacket and produced one of his most famous catchphrases in reference to his return to Denver.

A heated exchange followed before Theory started with an attempted assault on The Rock, who took a few shots to the head before reversing Theory’s move off the ring as the 51-year-old landed a spine buster.

But, the Rock wasn’t done yet. He rolled back the years as he delivered a People’s elbow to send the enthused fans into a state of tipsy.

After hitting his signature move, he pushed McAfee to take centre stage as the 36-year-old seized his moment in the sun with a people’s elbow of his own.

The Rock, one of the most successful wrestlers of all time, who also made an incredibly ambitious switch to Hollywood and made it work, made his name through his exploits in the ring and on the microphone.

He has been part of various multi-million dollar on-screen productions and has carved out a niche for himself in the industry over the years, following his departure from the wrestling business.
