The storylines leading to the upcoming WrestleMania might be affected due to the injury of Seth “Freakinn’ Rollins. The WWE World Heavyweight champion picked up an unfortunate injury on his left leg during a title defence against Jindar Mahal on a recent episode of Monday Night RAW. As WrestleMania is set to host a couple of championship matches, Rollin’s participation at the premium live event is quite crucial. But it all depends on the severity of his injury, which can only be confirmed by MRIs.
While fans have already started speculating about the Wrestlemania storylines, former TNA Digital Media Champion Tommy Dreamer addressed the topic during an interaction on the latest episode of “Busted Open Radio. He seemed hopeful about Rollins regaining full fitness ahead of the next WrestleMania, which will take place at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on April 6 and 7.
“If he is gonna miss some significant time, I know the Royal Rumble’s right around the corner, but WrestleMania? You’ve still got some time,” Dreamer said. He further discussed the injury of Rollins while emphasising the importance of WrestleMania.
“If it’s a hyper-extension, if it’s a tweak, obviously you’re gonna get MRIs to see if there are tears or you have your mobility because a lot of times you could also get a big ol’ brace and you gotta be able to continue because it’s WrestleMania,” the 52-year-old explained.
Dreamer reckons the result of the men’s Royal Rumble match will have a major impact on the development of WrestleMania. As per his prediction, CM Punk might have the last laugh and secure a spot in the main event of WrestleMania.
After parting ways with AEW, Punk made a surprising comeback to WWE in November last year, featuring at the Survivor Series. He also engaged in a fight against Dominik Mysterio during a WWE house show at Madison Square Garden in New York City in late December. Punk secured a comfortable victory in the match and now, he demands a regular spot in the company’s main roster.
According to Dreamer, the WrestleMania can be the platform for Punk, who has yet to claim a major victory on television. He said, “Punk hasn’t had a match to defeat anybody on television, so if he wins the Rumble, which earns him his main event of WrestleMania, which is what he wanted.”
Defending champion Cody Rhodes will try to make the most out of this year’s Royal Rumble as well. But whoever wins the battle, is expected to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight championship. The roster of Royal Rumble will also feature a WWE World Heavyweight title match where Roman Reigns may defend his title against The Rock.
