The night began with the Universal Champion Cody Rhodes addressing the fans. SmackDown viewers were then treated to one-on-one action between Carmelo Hayes and Andrade el Idolo.
Women’s action followed as Bianca Belair and Chelsea Green locked horns.
SmackDown’s main event witnessed Rhodes team up with a mystery partner to take on A-Town Down Under in a two-versus-two tag-team match.
The Bloodline also made a brief appearance on the show before it went off the air.
Rhodes addresses The Bloodline situation
Cody Rhodes began the segment by paying a tribute to the Apex Predator, Randy Orton. He thanked Orton for being both a friend and a mentor. He also claimed that the 14-time World Champion indirectly helped Rhodes win the WWE Undisputed title. Rhodes then talked about how he was ready to take on Solo Sikoa for his title at WWE SummerSlam. Soon, A-Town Down Under interrupted the champion who wasted no time in fighting back. However, the numbers game caught up to him. The champ later requested brand manager Nick Aldis to put him in a match against A-Town Down Under. Aldis agreed and asked Rhodes to find a tag-team partner.
Bayley vs Nia
This segment began with Corey Graves thanking Bayley and Nia Jax for joining before asking the two about their upcoming match at SummerSlam. Bayley talked about how Jax hadn’t changed in all these years before calling her reckless, big and clumsy. Jax didn’t take the Women’s Champion’s words too kindly and reminded her that she was the Queen of the Ring and the Queen of the SmackDown women’s division. Bayley eventually concluded the chat by saying she was going to walk out of SummerSlam after successfully defending the title against Jax.
LA Knight and Logan Paul sign contract
The LA Knight and Logan Paul row has been going on for a while now. The brand manager Nick Aldis decided to settle the bad blood by organising a championship match between them at SummerSlam. The contract signing event began with LA Knight calling Paul a fraud who pretended to be a champion. A fired-up Paul then signed the contract and got in Knight’s face. Aldis kept them separated after which the United States Champion moved out of the ring. Just when Knight was distracted, Paul got back inside and began brawling. Knight fought back and attempted to land the BFT on the US champ who swiftly slid out of the ring.
