Afghanistan's fielding coach, Ajay Jadeja was part of the management which helped Afghanistan produce their best run in the World Cup so far where they almost made it to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Former India cricketer and Afghanistan’s mentor Ajay Jadeja was seen sharing a hug with Rashid Khan after their loss to South Africa. Despite a valiant run in the tournament, the Afghans won’t be making the playoffs in India after losing to the African side by five wickets.

A clip has now emerged from that match, in which an emotional Jadeja can be seen shaking Rashid’s hand before sharing a heartwarming hug. The mentor then patted the back of his cricketer before moving back to the pavilion. The video was uploaded by a fan on X. In his post, he wrote, “Emotional Jadeja hugging Rashid. Should we say ‘beautiful bond’.”

Several fans were touched by the wonderful bond shared by the cricketing duo. One of them simply wrote, “Beautiful Gesture.”

Another said, “The atmosphere, surroundings, environment, solar system, universe created by xyz is so beautiful. What a beautiful video.”

A fan praised Afghanistan’s journey at the World Cup in India. He said, “We don’t know what lies ahead for this Afghanistan team, but they have been the story of this World Cup. From being a team which was being considered an easy win, to coming criminally close to the semis.”

A reply praised Ajay Jadeja’s contribution to the squad, “Ajay Jadeja was a Maverick of his time and his cricketing knowledge is just worth weight in gold!!!”

Afghanistan took on South Africa in a high-stake affair at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. The Afghans needed to secure a near-impossible margin win to topple New Zealand and solidify a playoff spot in the tournament. The match started with Afghanistan winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Azmatullah Omarzai’s 97-run knock helped his side to a total of 244 runs.

South African bowler Gerald Coetzee had the best performance in the innings as he scalped four wickets. In the second innings, Rassie van der Dussen smashed 75 runs while Andile Phehlukwayo contributed another 39 runs to secure a comfortable five-wicket victory for their nation. Rashid Khan had scalped two wickets in the innings, dismissing the likes of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen but it just wasn’t enough for a win.

Afghanistan’s World Cup 2023 campaign started poorly with losses against both Bangladesh and India. However, the team made a solid comeback into the tournament beating teams England, Pakistan and New Zealand. Their last victory in the competition came against the Netherlands who they beat by seven wickets. However, Afghanistan’s spoils at the World Cup just didn’t prove to be enough to secure them a spot in the knockout phase.
