Ferrari 250 GTO Sold for Whopping Rs 537 Crore, Becomes World’s Most Expensive Car [Video]

Back in 2014, a rare Ferrari 250 GTO fetched a whopping $38 million at Bonhams’ Monterey Auction, making it one of the most exclusive and expensive Ferrari ever sold in an auction. Reportedly, another rare Ferrari 250 GTO has fetched stunning $80 million in a private sale, making it the most expensive car ever sold in an auction.

Only 36 examples of the Ferrari 250 GTO were ever built from 1962-1964 and this particular unit is a 1963 model. The Ferrari, known as 4153 GT won the Tour de France Automobile in 1964, which is one of the world’s most famous and historic motor races.

As per a report on The duPont Registry, the buyer of this rare Ferrari could be David MacNeil, CEO of WeatherTech, the company that makes and sells floor mats and cargo-area covers. MacNeil is known for his love for Ferrari and is a Ferrari collector and driver.

The 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO spent most of its time in Germany and during the 1990s, it was restored by Hertfordshire-based DK Engineering. James Cottingham, a vehicle acquisition specialist at DK Engineering, said: "This is without doubt one of the best 250 GTOs in existence in terms of history and originality.

The Ferrari 250 GTO is known for fetching high amounts at various auctions and is a worthy classic car because of its looks, rarity and performance on both the track and public road. Ferrari fitted the 250 GTO with a 3-litre V12 engine producing 300bhp, pushing it from 0-100 kmph in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of more than 174mph.

The 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO is often called the Holy Grail of cars.
