Road Transport Ministry Allows Trailers Carrying 2-Wheelers to Have Upto Three Decks
The ministry has issued a notification on Feb 25 to amend Rule 93 of the CMV Rules 1989, whereby rigid vehicles and trailers can have a maximum of three decks to transport two-wheelers.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has allowed trailers to have a maximum of three decks to transport two wheelers, with the load body not projecting over the driver’s cabin.

According to the ministry, the move will enhance the carriage capacity of two wheelers by 40-50 per cent.

The ministry has issued a notification on February 25 to amend Rule 93 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, whereby rigid vehicles and trailers can have a maximum of three decks to transport two wheelers, with the load body not projecting over the driver’s cabin, it said.

Meanwhile, the vehicles carrying four wheelers can have maximum of two decks.

In its previous notification, the Roads Ministry said that Cash Vans will have to comply with the minimum requirements as stated in Automotive Industry Standard-163:2020. They will have to do so till the corresponding Bureau of Indian Standards specifications are notified under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

“This will facilitate manufacture, type approval testing and registration of Cash Vans as special purpose vehicles," the Road Ministry said.
