Woman shot dead by alleged terrorist in Shopian
The incident took place at the girl's residence on Tuesday evening.

Srinagar: An unidentified terrorist shot dead a 21-year-old woman in front of her family in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said on Wednesday.

“This incident happened on Tuesday between 1930 hrs IST to 1945 hrs IST, when a terrorist barged into the house of Muhammed Maqbool Mir, who was having dinner with his daughters,” said Superintendent of Police, Shopian, Shahid Mehraj.

“Mir was asked to mention the names of his daughters and when he pointed to 21-year-old Sheeraza Akhtar, he opened fire shooting her in the chin and abdomen,” Mehraj said.

The Shopian SP also said that medical formalities have been completed and investigations are going on.

When asked about the motive of crime, he said, “There are no motives for crime. Every militant has just one motive and that is to spread terror.”

Terming the incident as “despicable”, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said in Delhi, “We should condemn the incident and ensure that those, who have done it are brought to justice.”

“I think everyone in the world must come together and this is not what we expect. They (terrorists) don't believe in human rights, they shout for human rights, and yet they kill whosoever, they want to kill. Is the human rights of that girl not important,” the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said.
