Mumbai: The extent of Indian equity market’s fall on Tuesday morning can be deduced from the fact that Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) only five stocks registered gains till 10:15 am in the morning.
Here are the 5 indices:Religare Enterprises Ltd recorded a growth of 3.77% at 42.65 points from a previous day close of 41.10 points.Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd rose by 0.59% to 475 points, up by 2.80 points from a previous day close of 472.20 points.
Stocks of state-run oil firm, Oil India Ltd also rose by 0.31% to 337.45 points on Tuesday morning.Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd traded 0.06% up at 522.00 points.Astral Poly Technik Ltd was the last of the stocks that were in the green as it had a growth of 1.68% at 799.90 points, following a Monday evening close of 786.65 points.
The BSE had opened at 33,543.20 points, while the 50-share Nifty opened at 10,290.50 points. Both indices had already been reeling under the Long-Term Capital Gains tax on equity gains of more than Rs 1 lakh since the Budget.
A Finance Ministry official, however, says Tuesday’s fall is the result of domestic markets mimicking the global ones, adding that market regulator SEBI is keeping a “close watch”.Shares have tumbled across Asia after a wild day for US markets that resulted in the biggest drop in the Dow Jones industrial average since 2011.
Japan's Nikkei 225 index dropped as much as 5.6 percent in early trading Tuesday. By midday, it was down 5.3 percent at 21,487.87. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost 4.4 percent to 30,819.25 and Australia's benchmark S&P ASX 200 had skidded 2.9 percent to 5,852.20. South Korea's Kospi declined 2.9 percent to 2,418.79 and the Shanghai Composite index was off 2.2 percent at 3,412.37.
