The SC issued notices to the Centre, the CBI and the CVC in a case that seeks criminal proceedings against former telecom minister Pramod Mahajan.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Centre, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Central Vigilance Commissioner in a case that seeks criminal proceedings against former telecom minister Pramod Mahajan.

A petition seeks investigation into Reliance Infocomm Ltd's launch of its WLL services without paying the requisite licence fee for entry into fully mobile services during Mahajan's tenure in the NDA regime.

The notice was issued by a Bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Justice C K Thakker and Justice R V Ravindeeran on a petition filed by an NGO Citizens Forum against Corruption.

The petitioner alleges that Reliance Infocomm allotted shares worth Rs 1 crore to three front companies at Re 1 each as against the Rs 55 paid by Reliance Industries itself for the same share at the same time.

The petitioner counsel Prashant Bhushan alleged that the real beneficiary of these shares were Mahajan and his family.
