The festival of Pongal is just around the corner. Tamil Nadu is gearing up for the celebrations. One of the major parts of the festivities is the Jallikattu sport which attracts a lot of crowds during this time. Minister of Commercial Taxes and Registration P Moorthy on Monday laid Muhurtha Kaal at Avaniyapuram and Alanganallur in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Preparatory works have already begun with the registration of bulls and bull tamers. More than 500 bulls are preparing to participate in this competition. The bulls must showcase courage and strength in this event. Every bull undergoes rigorous training to ensure success at the competition. As a part of this tradition, Divyadarshini from Alanganallur region of Madurai has a unique bull that goes by the name Military, whom she is training rigorously.
In an interview with News18, Divyadarshini informed that she has been part of the Jallikattu event by actively getting involved in training her bulls. She is training her bull to win the competition. But, why is his name Military? The woman shares an anecdote about the bull coming to her house for the first time.
Divyadarshini informed that Military was given milk in a bottle while raising. He was named Military because he was brought from a military person; the bull even behaves like a strict military person. He would eat a certain amount and not exceed it. Even if there is more hay or his favourite food, he will never overeat. Hence, he was named Military. Now, he is eight to nine years old. She said that the bull does not trust anyone easily and gets along with only a few people. Once he develops a special bond, he is affectionate. He is quite reserved in front of strangers.
When Military was old enough, he participated in Jallikattu. He has been to various cities for the competition and has won accolades and appreciation. This has resulted in them winning gold coins. He has till now never lost any competition. The bull does not allow anyone to come near him or the house. When he is taken out of the house, he will jump out of the door like a horse or dash like a bullet. Hence, he is also called Bullet.
Military maintains a special diet. He is given straw and bran. He is also given palm jaggery, bananas, sugarcane and maize as well. He receives a balanced diet which consists of him having grated coconut in the afternoon and boiled maize in the evening. He is accustomed to a specific food before the Jallikattu season that includes nutritious grains and vegetables. For his training, he is made to walk daily and dig up the soil to build his strength and resilience.
