Jennifer’s Bakery, located in Mahadanatheru in the Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu has made a unique Christmas cake in the form of a crocodile. Every Christmas, bakeries in the district strive to introduce innovative designs, such as last year’s bell-shaped cake in Mayavaram. This year, they’ve chosen to create a cake resembling a crocodile.
Annually on December 25, Christians celebrate Christmas with great festivity. This year, the three Jennifer’s Bakeries in Mayiladuthurai have joined in the festive spirit by creating crocodile-shaped cakes to mark the occasion. Customers visiting the bakery are captivated by the unique cakes, often taking photos. In addition to the crocodile cakes, Jennifer’s Bakery offers a variety of Christmas-themed cakes and sweets for sale, enhancing the joyous atmosphere.
City hotels and bakeries are gearing up for the festive season by organising Christmas cake preparations through both in-house and public “cake-mixing” ceremonies. These events involve soaking substantial amounts of dried fruits, nuts, spices, and sugar in alcohol as a preliminary step in the baking process. As part of this tradition, Courtyard by Marriott in Tiruchi recently hosted an evening program where guests were invited to collectively mix nearly 100 kg of dried fruits, nuts and spices with alcohol and cranberry juice in anticipation of the holiday season.
Chef Pramod Chougale from Courtyard by Marriott shared that, while traditionally fruit cake mix is soaked for at least a year for enhanced flavour and improved texture, they are opting for a more contemporary approach. The mix prepared today will be used to create over 100 kg of various Christmas treats, including Christmas cake, Dundee Cake, Plum Cake, and Christmas Pudding, just in time for the festive season in December.
Cake Bee, with establishments in Tiruchi, Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai, is gearing up for Christmas sales by preparing over 1,000 kg of fruit cake in the initial week of December. They’ve curated a mix of nearly 12 varieties of dry fruits and nuts for Christmas confectionery, catering to diverse preferences. Responding to customer requests, Cake Bee has introduced eggless and non-alcoholic fruit cakes. The fruit mix will be featured in a range of offerings, including Rich Plum Cake, Wine Cake, Dundee Cake, and Panettone. For the non-alcoholic versions, dried fruits will be soaked in natural fruit juice for a shorter duration.
