'A Dream Come True for a Billion of Us': Rohit Sharma & His Boys Share Reactions After Being Crowned Champions
It is Day 1 as World Champions for the Indian cricket team, check out players' initial reactions after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

It’s Day 1 for the Indian cricket team as T20I champions, something that many players or fans still struggle to sink it all in. After struggling to make the final jump, Rohit Sharma and his men have finally gotten the job done as they were crowned champions after beating South Africa by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados yesterday.

Several players took to social media to share their initial reactions after taking a well-deserved rest following the title-winning clash against the Proteas.

The game was no easy affair as the South African side had India in their stranglehold during the second innings but the pacers managed to come together and take the team forward to take the title.

Sanju Samson

While Sanju Samson might not have been able to feature in the starting 11, he will surely have made the fans from Kerala proud for making the cut to being in the squad.

He said, “A World Cup doesn’t happen easily….we had to wait 13 years to enjoy this feeling again…!! What a team, what a final..We truly deserve it A big THANKS to all the passionate lovers of Indian cricket all over the world !! Let the celebrations begin!!

The return of Rishabh to international cricket was in itself a long shot but no one expected him to come back in roaring fashion in the way he started the tournament and taking that number three spot for himself.

Kuldeep Yadav

The left-arm chinaman was among the others who kept it short and sweet. The spinner might not have had the best of times with the ball in that final, but his contributions all the way to the finals will always be remembered.

Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube had one role, which was to attack the spinners, but despite coming in the latter stages, Dube certainly did not disappoint as he chipped in with his fair share of runs. He thanked the entire nation for their support, he said, “Proud of what we have achieved as a team, and grateful for the support of 1.4 billion people. To everyone that kept us in their prayers and never lost belief”.

Hardik Pandya

Many questioned whether Hardik Pandya’s selection was warranted but he sure did prove his doubters wrong as he put in an all-round shift to take India to the pinnacle. He had a briefly captioned post where he said,” Good morning, India. It wasn’t a dream, it’s real. We’re world champions”.

Arshdeep Singh

The left-arm pacer has certainly grown a lot to warrant his place in the starting 11 and finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. He was at his witty self when posting on Instagram where his post was captioned, “8:47 AM local time. Woke up as the WORLD CHAMPION! Now going back to sleep”.

Suryakumar Yadav

Sky certainly had his moment, albeit not with the bat but on the field as he took that iconic catch at long-off to get rid of David Miller to curb South Africa’s chances of completing the chase in the final over.

Jasprit Bumrah

After putting up a legendary performance in the tournament, Jasprit Bumrah had a brief caption the following day after the final,” woke up a world champion”.

Virat Kohli

The cricketing gods could not have given a much better farewell to arguably India’s best batter in the shortest format to date, after not scoring much in the tournament, Kohli came in with the clutch knock to help India put one step away from getting the big prize. His post was captioned, “Couldn’t have dreamt of a better day than this. God is great and I bow my head in gratitude. We finally did it. Jai Hind”.

Rohit Sharma

Last but not the least is our skipper, Rohit Sharma who still remains speechless after leading the nation to glory. However, he has assured us that he would speak more once the victory has really sunk in. He said, “This picture epitomises how I’m feeling right now. So many words but can’t find the right ones to express what yesterday meant to me but I will, and I will share them, but right now I’m basking in a dream come true for a billion of us”.
