Albie Morkel Says 'Sure Morne Would Love to Work With' Jasprit Bumrah
Albie Morkel called the coaching the Indian cricket team as 'probably the biggest responsibility or coaching job'.

Former South Africa pace great Morne Morkel is excited will do well as Indian cricket team head coach, feels his brother Albie and also revealed that he would love to work with Jasprit Bumrah.

“It goes without saying that being on the Indian team’s coaching staff is probably the biggest responsibility or coaching job out there. The passion for the sport and the success that the team had in the past makes it a job with no room for error. He will be surrounded by some very good players who have achieved a lot, so I guess, for him, it’s a matter of earning their trust and believe that he can help to reach their full potential day in and day out,” Albie was quoted as saying to Mid-day.

When asked about who he admires among India’s bowlers, Albie said: “Not sure but Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah.

“Once again, I don’t know what his exact thoughts would be, but Jasprit is the best all-format bowler in the world. He is very special and I’m sure Morne would love to work with him,” he added.

It is understood that the 39-year-old Morne, who replaces Paras Mhambrey, will take over as the bowling coach from the Bangladesh series that starts with the opening Test in Chennai from September 19. He has been appointed till the end of the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

Morkel was directly appointed on Gambhir’s recommendation ahead of other options like Lakshmipathy Balaji and R Vinay Kumar as the South Africa was the Indian head coach’s preferred choice, having worked with him at Lucknow Super Giants during the Indian’s two IPL seasons as mentor of the franchise.

Morkel has played 86 Tests, 117 ODIs and 44 T20Is for South Africa with a total of 544 international wickets.

He will be reporting in Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy at the start of next month and is expected to watch the Duleep Trophy games. Once there, he will also touch base with VVS Laxman and head of bowling in NCA, Troy Cooley.
